I spent over a month in Costa Rica as part of a biodiversity and convervation programme. We lived in the jungle for most of it, a few hours drive from the nearest village, sleeping in a hammock and undertaking biodiversity surveys most days.
The smallest frogs are always the loudest - seen while on a swamp walk.
Baby curly haired tarantula, snuck up from under the table as I was eating breakfast!
This was the bigest spider I have ever seen - the leaves it spans half way across are banana leaves!
Puma tracks just 100m away from our camp.
The Arenal volcano, overlooking the town of La Fortuna.
Hammocks are more comfy than they look to sleep in - had to check for scorpions and spiders every night though - found one once.
I never knew there were so many ways to cook + flavour rice and beans, after 5 weeks I think we tried them all though.
A tail-less whip-scorpion, discovered after someone was showering in the dark and decided to light a candle to get dry - there were screams.
Regular beach patrols were undertaken to check for turtles laying eggs on the beach.
I took this photo of a 2m long Caimen while waist deep in swamp, no zoom in the photo, it was close!
A Fer-de-lance, the most dangerous snake in Costa Rica - on the log in the bottom left of the photo: my footprint!
Tarzan wore wellingtons (rubber boots) right?
